De Hoop (3 Listings)
De Hoop is a safe and secluded valley adjoining the Kouga Mountains, 18kms from Uniondale in the Western Cape.
This valley has a superbly moderate climate, and a rainfall of 450-650 mm per year. Temperatures seldom exceed 30°C. Winter snowfalls occur regularly on the mountains, and sometimes on the lower sections of the land. Foreign guests liken this valley to Switzerland or Scotland.
Due to the location and close co-operation of all inhabitants, crime is almost non-existent.
Fruit, grapes, vegetables, sheep, horses, game and herbs do exceptionally well in this moderate climate and deep soil.
Indigenous game such as Grey Rhebuck, Duiker, Greysbok, Klipspringer and bush-pig are frequently seen. Over 150 species of birds and more than 3000 plant species have been listed in this floral paradise.
The local rural town of Uniondale has a very good school, hospital, SAPS station and supermarkets.
